The very first Clubhouse Festival took place at Laurel Park in Laurel, MD this past Saturday, October 20, 2018. The festival was a part of Maryland Million Day a one-day stakes card offering horse racing purses totaling $1 million dollars. The festival was organized by The Stronach Group and Club Glow.
The lineup for the festival included headliner Steve Aoki followed by Wifisfuneral, Sam Feldt, Lost Kings, Tyga, Rich The Kid, Bonnie X Clyde, Salamander, and Deerock. Deadmau5 was scheduled to be the headliner for the festival, but after he made some offensive comments he pulled himself from the festival and decided he needed to get professional help. Upon learning about the deadmau5’s cancellation the festival organizers made some concessions. They reduced the price of admission to the event by $45 and current ticketholders who made the purchase via Eventbrite were automatically refunded the same amount. Hat’s off to the festival organizers for doing that for their patrons.
For a first time festival, the crowd size for Clubhouse Festival was modest. I do believe that if deadmau5 had been available the crowd would have doubled in sized. For most of the day, the weather alternated between cloudy and partly cloudy with patches of sun here and there helping to warm up the festival grounds. Even with the cooler weather, folks were dressed in the normal wide range of EDM garb that you see at EDM festivals. From barely nothing to full blown onesie mode. Shout out to the guy in the blue onesie who just looked happy to be there.
A common theme throughout the day that I noticed is that no matter the crowd size or the artist that was performing, most of the crowd was into the show at all times. I think Clubhouse Festival has a lot of potential and I think because of what happened this year, next year the lineup and the festival will be even better.
