Kat Edmonson performs at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC on Friday, November 8, 2012.

Singer Kat Edmonson made a stop at the 9:30 Club on Friday, November 8. Ms. Edmonson was their as the opening act for Gary Clark Jr.’s Blak & Blu tour.

The Texas native, known for her pop-vintage style (yup, I just coined that term), has been having a great year. The great year that Ms. Edmonson has been having actually got a kick start back on April 4, 2011.

After self-financing her first album, Take To the Sky (09), Edmonson thought it would be best to try something different for her next project. She decided to take a chance and use the crowd funding website Kickstarter to raise the necessary funds for her next album. Well, the risk paid off. On April 4, 2011, her Kickstarter campaign was funded. Edmonson raised more than $53,000. This was enough money for her to release her second album, Way Down Low, on April 10, 2012.

Way Down Low received rave reviews in The New York Times, and on NPR.org. She was also featured on NPR’s World Cafe in July and she was featured on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series in October. Now it is November, and Edmonson is finishing up her opening dates for Gary Clark Jr.’s Black & Blu tour. Following that, she will go out on the road with Chris Isaak.

Like I said, she is having a great year.

ABOUT

Ever since I borrowed a camera from a friend of mine eight years ago, I have loved sharing what I see through the lens of my camera with the world. There is nothing better than making somebody feel like they were right there with you. A brief moment in time, by way of photography, can say so much. I hope that these brief moments in time point people in the direction of someplace, something, or someone that they may not be aware of, and that they are curious enough to go see for themselves.
