Gary Clark, Jr. performs at the 9:30 Club on Friday, November 9, 2012 in Washington, D.C.
Blues musician Gary Clark, Jr. was only seventeen years old when the Mayor of Austin, TX, Kirk Watson, made May 3, 2001 Gary Clark, Jr. Day. At such a young age, in a city that is known for its live music, Gary Clark, Jr. had already made a significant impact on the music world. Fast forward to today, eleven years later, Clark is the buzz of the music world again. However, this time not just in Austin, Texas. Some of the accolades that Clark is receiving today include; being crowned “the chosen one” by Entertainment Weekly, the “2012 Festival King” by Spin Magazine, and VH1’s November You Oughta Know Artist On The Rise.
In addition, Clark has already played at Eric Clapton’s much heralded “Crossroads Guitar Festival” in 2010 where he wowed the crowd which his performance of Bright Lights, and if he has a bucket list he can check off visiting The White House and playing for the President off of it. He visited and played at the White House in February 2012 as a part of the “In Performance at the White House” series.
On Friday, November 9, Gary Clark, Jr. returned to Washington, D.C. in support of his his new album Blak And Blu. After Kat Edmonson opened the show by making grown men swoon (I saw it for myself), Clark brought the sound of the blues to a very eager sold-out crowd at DC’s legendary 9:30 Club.
