In an electrifying display of talent, Johnny Gill and his New Edition bandmate, Ralph Tresvant, performed at the Theater at MGM National Harbor on Saturday, March 7, 2020. Ralph and Johnny both came into prominence as members of the legendary music group New Edition.
Ralph Tresvant, original member of the group, and also the lead vocalist of New Edition, opened the show. Tresvant was heartily received from the audience as he performed. Tresvant performed several of his solo hits including “Sensitivity” and rounded out the show testing the crowds’ affinity for New Edition with a sing a long medley of some of the group’s hits.
A well warmed up crowd then welcomed, fellow band member and DC native Johnny Gill, who was fabulously appreciated by the home town crowd. Gill rocked the sold out crowd with hits from his library including “Wrap my body tight”,”Rub you the right way”, “ Fair weather friend”, “It would be you”, “My My My” and “There U Go” from the Boomerang soundtrack. Johnny also showed off his prowess on the congas and the drums in a surprise to many.
In a very touching and fitting piece of the show, Johnny brought his mother to the stage and performed his #1 hit “ Soul of a Woman” and dedicated it to her.
Johnny took a break from his music during the show to take the crowd to church, reminding all in attendance not to take life, love or people for granted, because there is no guarantee in tomorrow. Bringing recent tragedy and epidemics to attention, Gill preached about the fact that it doesn’t matter how famous, or rich you may be, be something great and leave a legacy.
Johnny and Ralph reunited on stage to preform several of their new collaborations and revisit hits that they made together as New Edition.
And just when you thought this party could get any more hyped, Ralph and Johnny walked off stage and into the crowd, erupting their fans into a frenzy.
This show was a reminder of the impact that these two along with the other members of New Edition made on the music world and the generations of fans that they touched.
