The 5th annual Funk Parade is turning out to be its biggest yet. After nearly having to cancel this years Funk Parade, the organizers of the event put out a call for help and they got an overwhelming response. In a few weeks, they were able to raise $60,000. $20,000 came from crowdfunding donations by the great residents of the District, The Mayor’s office kicked in $25,000, and they received a number of corporate sponsorships.
With that said, here are the details for this years Funk Parade and Day Fair:
Funk Parade Launch Party w/Bashment DC

Funk Parade Day Fair
The day fair will take place on Saturday, May 11, from 1:00pm – 7:00 p.m. Everything from multiple stages for live music to spoken word to a local marketplace will be available throughout the day. But, everything comes to a stop from 5pm – 6pm for the main event of the day the FUNK PARADE. Here are the details.

This years Funk Parade does not stop with the Day Fair. The party continues up and down U Street and across the city on Saturday. This includes Jazz & Justice Showcase at Tropicalia, Struttin’ Saturday Funk Powered Jam at DC9, Jazz Jam featuring Marcus Johnson and Lionel Lyles at Bin 1301, and the World of Funk at U Street Music Hall just to name a few.
