Floydfest 2016
I have to give credit to Floydfest. They are one of the few festivals that regularly has a majority of their festival line-up set several months before the festival date. That’s not easy to do. Also, they provide a number of ticket options from a 5-day pass bundle, that includes parking and camping ( Currently $1,060), to a 1-day pass (Currently $85). This makes it more affordable for all festival goers.
In addition to the 9 performance stages and 50+ musical acts, Floydfest has a variety of other activities taking place during their 5-day festival. If you are an active outdoors type of person, this festival is definitely designed with you in mind. Non-music activities include: kayaking & canoeing, disc golf, mountain biking, hiking, and a 5K trail running race.
Maybe the whole active outdoors adventure thing isn’t for you. You are more of a workshop and discussion panel kind of person. Well, Floydfest is designed with you in mind too. The festival will offer engaging panels at its’ Workshop Porch featuring legends and knowledgeable members of the Appalachian mountain music culture. Over the years, artist like Taj Mahal, Ralph Stanley, Jorma Kaukonen, Chris Thile, and others have visited the Workshop Porch to share their insight into the Appalachian mountain music culture and to share their stories. For those of you who are hands-on learners, Floydfest will once again offer “hands-on-how-to’s ranging from bee-keeping and primitive-tool making to hula-hooping!” in the same area as the Workshop Porch.
Have kids, bring them with you. Floydfest has a Children’s Universe & Teen Scene that includes mixed media art workshops and painting parties, Ukele workshops and jam sessions, drumming workshops, and more for teens. And children’s activities include a costume tent, balloon art, jugglers, face-painting, puppets and more.
Lastly, in addition to enjoying music, Floydfest is all about you relaxing too. The Floydfest Healing Arts Village will offer yoga, internal martial arts, medicinal and edible herb walks, ecstatic dance, sacred art massage and other healing practices throughout the 5-day festival.
Floydfest 2016, is more than a music festival. It’s an experience.
