The African American Festival took place this past weekend in between the grounds of M&T Bank Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore. The festival focuses on the music and culture of African Americans and has been doing so for more than 30 years. Presented by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and produced by geiBO Entertainment, attendees to the festival were treated to three performance stages, activities for children, free health screenings, cultural exhibits, contests, education, financial empowerment activities, and food from a variety of vendors.
One of the most anticipated performances of the day was r&b singer and star of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, K. Michelle’s. The Memphis, Tennessee native is known for not holding her tongue on the reality TV series. VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Atlanta may have brought K. Michelle more attention, but at the end of the day the reason she is where she is in the music industry because of her amazing voice. K. Michelle can sing with the best of around, and she showcased her talents throughout the entire time that she was on stage. Besides having a great voice, K. Michelle was very engaging; she talked to the huge crowd that was in attendance like she was standing in her living room.
All though she is currently is as famous is she has ever been, K. Michelle first gained attention in 2009 when she released the singles “Self Made” featuring Trina & Gucci Mane and “Fakin It” featuring Missy Elliott. From 2010 – 2012 she released a few singles, but no album was released. She left RCA records in 2011 after being bought out of her contract and soon after signed to Atlantic Records.
K. Michelle’s debut album, Rebellious Soul is scheduled to be released on August 13, 2013 and lead single V.S.O.P. peaked at #20 on the Billboard U.S. R&B Charts.
