Lianne La Havas is on her way to being a star. The British born folk/soul singer charmed, wooed, and amazed a sold-out 9:30 Club on Friday, April 12 with a performance that was as close to perfect as it gets. There are some artist who have “it” and she has “it”.
In addition, there are not many artist who play the 9:30 Club and have a line of concert goers stretching seven city blocks waiting to get in before the doors even open. The show was sold-out, and considering Ms. La Havas was not scheduled to go on until 10:00 p.m. that is a big deal. Especially in town like Washington where the crowd is known to slowly but surely fill a performance venue.
The 23 year old Warner Bros. Records artist released her debut album Is Your Love Big Enough? in July of 2012. The album was awarded the iTunes Album of the Year. Since the release of her debut album, La Havas has been on the road performing through Europe, Australia, and the United States. She has been in the states since early March and her current stretch of shows are scheduled to end on Sunday, April 14 in Nashville, TN.
Through out the night, the audience could be heard singing along with Ms. La Havas word for word on various songs. Including, “Lost & Found”, “Gone”, and “Is Your Love Big Enough” to name a few. La Havas let the audience know that she was “trying to hold it together” and that she was “overwhelmed” by the support and love that the audience was showing her.
Worth mentioning is the excellent band and back-up singers that supported Ms. La Havas’ performance. Your only as good as the talent that is around you and she has surrounded herself with excellent talent.
Be on the look our for Lianne La Havas during this upcoming summer music festival season. She is a must see if she is on the line-up.
Enough said. Enjoy the photos!
