Snoop Dogg performs at Rams Head Live on Thursday, October 4, 2012 in Baltimore, MD.
Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg brought his current tour to Rams Head Live on Thursday, October 4. Amazingly, it has been 20 years since the world first heard Snoop Dogg’s voice along side that of Dr. Dre on the song Deep Cover. The theme song for the movie of same name.
Snoop is a prime example of how to stay relevant in the music industry. Since the release of his highly anticipated and classic debut album Doggystyle in 1993, Snoop has consistently released new music, collaborated with other artist, and he has appeared and stared in more then forty movies and televisions shows. His high level of consistent work and likeable personality has grew his fan base over the years to include young kids and their parents. This has led to a huge number of endorsement deals over the years including the most recent with EA Sports for their FIFA soccer game series.
One of the key signs that an artist has hit legendary status in the music industry is when you go to their concert, and the artist starts playing what seems to be a never ending stream of hits that they have had over the years. In addition, the crowd in attendace knows every word to each song and the energy is at ten every time the beat for another song starts. In brief, this was how the entire night went at Rams Head Live. Snoop had the crowd in the palm of his hands from the first moment he stepped on the stage.
Snoop Dogg a.k.a Snoop Lion also went into his newly created reggae catalog. Back in July 2012, Snoop Lion released his first reggae single “La La La”. Some people are wondering where the name came change from. During an interview with news.com.au Snoop explained the name change that took place while he was in Jamaica.
“I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, ‘Snoop Dogg’. And he looked me in my eyes and said, ‘No more. You are the light; you are the lion. I have always said I was Bob Marley reincarnated. I feel I have always been a Rastafari. I just didn’t have my third eye open, but it’s wide open right now”, the rapper said.
In addition to adding reggae to his repertoire, Snoop has added being a DJ to his skills too. DJ Snoopadelic (a shout out to George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic) released the mixtape Loose Joints, a collection of electronic dance music this past September. You can listen to the mix below.
In addition, if you have not heard already, Snoop has a documentary out titled Reincarnated which follows Snoop Lions Rastafarian awakening.
