Amanda Shires couldn’t have had a better 2013. The singer/songwriter and talented fiddle player  released her fifth album “Down Fell Doves” in August 2013 which received multiple positive reviews including a 3.5 stars from Rolling Stone magazine. She was featured on NPR’s All Things Considered which is one of the most listened to news programs in the country. In addition, the American Songwriter Magazine ranked her hit single Devastate #37 on its “Top 50 Songs of 2013” list and her song “The Drop and Lift” was featured in American Songwriter’s September Sampler. Public radio showed her a lot of love too by listing her song “Bulletproof” in “Heavy Rotation: 10 Songs Public Radio Can’t Stop Playing”.

Good songwriters tell vivid stories that stick with you, and Shires does this. For example, in the song “Devastate”, she sings about being insecure in a relationship, and believing that no matter how well things are going that the person you are with has someone else on their mind.

“You get so dark, Does her voice light in you somewhere, That I could never see?”. She continues, “And she comes rolling on through like waves,  I see the want in you radiate, Why wait for the landfall?, Go on and go, devastate”. Very vivid.

See and hear for yourself below.

ABOUT

Ever since I borrowed a camera from a friend of mine eight years ago, I have loved sharing what I see through the lens of my camera with the world. There is nothing better than making somebody feel like they were right there with you. A brief moment in time, by way of photography, can say so much. I hope that these brief moments in time point people in the direction of someplace, something, or someone that they may not be aware of, and that they are curious enough to go see for themselves.
